It is a well maintained horn from the 1970’s. It could pass for a brand new horn. The lacquer on the bell is a very good , hardly any wear. The valves are some of the best I have ever felt, and they are a bit unusual since they have bottom springs that go between the bottom of the valve piston and the bottom valve caps. The herald bell detaches and has its own slot in the case. The case is in excellent shape and has room for the bell, body of the horn, and a mouthpiece. The horn takes a cornet shank mouthpiece. Comes with case, no mouthpiece included though I do have a few I could sell along with the horn.  You hardy ever see these up for sale, they are quite unusual. This would be a great horn for a collector or somebody looking for a good entry level piccolo.  Comes with the Original Case.

• Factory Location: It was built at the Conn-Selmer factory in Elkhart, Indiana, USA.

• Model 180: This means it features a standard-weight body with a traditional one-piece valve casing.

This trumpet was produced during the period when Bach instruments were being manufactured in Elkhart, Indiana, following the company’s relocation from Mount Vernon, New York.

Vincent Bach sold his company to Selmer in 1961, and production began at the Elkhart facility in 1965.

A trumpet from approximately 1970–1971 is therefore an early Elkhart-era instrument.

These trumpets are now vintage professional instruments. Their individual playing characteristics and market values depend heavily on condition, originality, and maintenance history.

It is worth distinguishing this instrument from a Mount Vernon Bach: serial number 51641 indicates an Elkhart-era trumpet, not a Mount Vernon instrument.

Here is a very desirable Bach Stradivarius Model 25G Large Bore Bb trumpet, serial number 45523, dating to approximately 1968 — an early Elkhart-era Bach and one of the periods that serious Bach players and collectors continue to seek out.

The 25G is the classic Bach large-bore .462” configuration with the G/gold-brass bell, giving this horn the combination of broad projection, warmth and depth that makes the 25G such a favorite with professional players.

WHY THIS ERA?

Serial #45523 places this trumpet right around 1968, only a few years after Bach production moved from Mount Vernon to Elkhart. The early Elkhart instruments occupy an interesting place in Bach history: they retain much of the traditional hand-finished approach and design philosophy associated with the earlier Vincent Bach instruments while benefiting from the increased production capabilities of the new Elkhart facility.

Many experienced Bach players specifically seek out early Elkhart Strads because of their individual playing characteristics, substantial construction and the consistency of the classic Bach designs from this period.

Rather than simply calling an older Bach “better” than a modern instrument, we think the real attraction is that these vintage horns can have a distinctive personality and response that many players find difficult to duplicate. Every good vintage Bach has its own voice — and this one has the added advantage of having received professional valve work.
