Callet’s involvement with the business of instruments began with sixteen years in sales (1953–1968) for Elden Benge, followed by eight years of experience with Dominick Calicchio (1968–1975). He absorbed much of his knowledge of trumpet making from these two brilliant men. With this rich background and his talent as an accomplished machinist, Mr. Callet was able to release his first line of trumpet mouthpieces in 1973, and his first trumpet under his own brand name in 1984.[2][3] In 1973, he also developed a line of mouthpieces to complement his embouchure theories. In the meantime, he taught embouchure technique in Pittsburgh (1960) and New York (from 1972 to April 2019).

The fulfillment of his quest to create the best brass instruments possible culminated with his “New York Soloist” B♭ trumpet, released in 2013 (built by Kanstul), and his 1ss, 1sc, and 1sb trumpet mouthpieces, released in 2017 (built by Jim New). Callet’s historical legacy of trumpet manufacturing is represented by his “Sima Bb”, “Sima C”, “Sima D/Eb”, “Jazz Bb”, “Superchops Bb”, “Symphonique Bb”, “Symphonique C”, “Stratosphere Bb”, and previous “Soloist Bb” trumpets, as well as his “Grand Prix” flugelhorn, his earlier “Jazz” and “NY” flugelhorns, and his “Jazz” trombone. More than 6,000 Callet trumpets and 15,000 Callet mouthpieces were manufactured overall.

Custom Series Trumpets

Lightweight “Step-Bore” designs from Renold O. Schilke

The Schilke Custom Series C Trumpets (also known as the C Series) were designed by Renold O. Schilke and date back to his founding of our company. These models feature a lightweight design with minimal bracing, round main tuning slide and reverse leadpipe. Unique to the C (and B Series Bb) the Custom Series C Trumpets are designed with a multi-bore concept to create a balanced feel with each model. They are known for a natural brilliance, or “shimmer,” to the sound, an ease of playing, consistent “feel” from top to bottom and superior intonation.

Bore Size: .460″ ML
Tuning Slide Bore: .468”
Bell Taper: #1
Bell Material: Tunable Yellow Brass

Bell Material

All Custom Series C Trumpets come standard with a yellow brass bell. Yellow brass bells are more consistent in tonal color regardless of dynamics.

Tuning Bells

Detachable tuning bells are available by special order on any Custom Series C Trumpet. The advantage of the tuning bell feature is that the tuning slide can be left all the way in or moved only a little, thereby keeping the bore relatively free of gaps that may cause a disturbance in the nodal pattern of the sound wave. Another advantage is that different bells of varying tapers, materials and finishes may be used to change characteristics of the instrument.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE TOGETHER

In the Autumn of 2004, Francisco Montesinos Fides and Matthias Beck founded the Spanish company, MUSIC DEVELOPMENT S.L. The idea was to develop a new product line featuring a range of their own instruments. The foundation and philosophy was to offer our products to a wider international market and to create a new brand that reflects the warmth of their aesthetic values.

BIRTHPLACE SCHWÄBISCHE ALB

This new venture was founded in the Schwäbische Alb (the Swabian Alps, a low mountain range in southwest Germany).

The instruments Fides and Beck are developed by technicians and craftsmen in the workshop of Matthias Beck in Dettingen at the foot of Schwäbische Alb.

Francisco Montesinos Fides, born in Valencia, is responsible for international marketing.

Matthias Beck, Professional Trumpeter, Instrument Maker and Designer

THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS

Ever since their inception, they have continued to gain international recognition from musicians and the music industry. Their models range from high quality instruments for beginners to those at the height of their profession either as soloists or members of an orchestra.

Fides is a Latin word meaning Faith, Trust and Loyalty, and with that base they orient their work to look at the future.

Second owner purchased the horn in 1996. Horn was near mint in Lacquer when purchased.

The 2nd owner had the Horn has been Blueprinted by Charlie Melk in 2010 and Had Bell Bow rounding done by Jim Becker at Osmun in 2012. After many years he decided it was time to completely restore it.

Charlie Melk did a valve job and re-plated in Double Silver at Andersons. He also did his normal PVA. Horn is immaculate. As new from the Bach Factory in the 70’s. 229L Large Bore C’ s of this vintage are impossible to find in this condition.
