• Originality: Conn 8B horns  in this price range want the original aluminum valve stems and the specific adjustable 3rd-slide ring. If these are present along with the lacquer, it’s a “time capsule” piece.
• Elkhart Craftsmanship: 1963 was a “sweet spot” for Conn quality before the corporate changes of the late 60s.
• Vibe: Known for its “smokier” tone and crisp articulation, it was designed for players who need an agile horn with enough “edge” to project through a section.

The modern Conn 8B Lightweight Artist model was produced between 1963 and 1979. During this time, Conn used letter prefixes to indicate the year.

• “C” Prefix (1962–1963): Early production years.
