Yamaha YFH-631G Flugelhorn S/n 472881 This exact configuration is highly regarded by musicians and brass ensembles around the world.
This particular horn is in perfect condition with no dents, dings, or trauma.  Comes with original Case and Mouthpiece.
  • Model: Yamaha YFH-631G (Professional Series Bb Flugelhorn).
  • Key Feature: Includes a mechanical 3rd valve slide trigger, which is essential for adjusting on-the-fly intonation on notes that naturally run sharp or flat.
  • Bell Material: Gold brass with a clear lacquer finish, which yields a gorgeous dark, warm, and broad mellow sound.
  • Bore Size: 0.433″ medium bore. This slightly larger size makes it the ideal “doubler’s” horn, allowing for an easy physical transition to and from a standard trumpet.
  • No Mouthpiece
  • Storage: Includes the premium Yamaha FHC-6310 Hardshell Case.
This horn was manufactured in Japan between the late 1980s and mid-1990s.
Unlike some manufacturers, Yamaha does not publish a public, date-exact chronological log of brass serial numbers. However, historical production data from Yamaha brass databases narrows down the timeframe:
  • The 6-Digit Numbering System: Yamaha used 6-digit serial numbers starting with 4xxxxx specifically during the late 1980s and through the 1990s.
  • Production Context: The YFH-631 line itself was launched in the 1970s, but early models lacked the 3rd valve trigger. The trigger configuration became standard on the assembly lines during the mid-to-late 1980s transition.
  • The “Made in Japan” Era: A serial number sequence in this range (458175) points directly to Yamaha’s legendary Toyooka factory in Hamamatsu, Japan, long before some production lines shifted to other regions. Instruments from this era are highly valued by players for their precise Japanese engineering and durable alloy construction.
