Description

About the closest thing you’ll find like a Martin Committee!  It will make your dog SING!

Built by the “Old Man”. Renold Otto Schilke (June 30, 1910 – September 5, 1982) was an American professional orchestral trumpet player, instrument designer and manufacturer. He founded and ran Schilke Music Products Incorporated, a manufacturer of brass instruments and mouthpieces.

Beautiful Schilke B7Lb-GP. Light Beryllium Tuning Bell. It is in excellent condition with only some slight surface scratches in the beautiful GOLD plate. Very nice!

This horn was built in 1976 (SN# 8181). The horn plays very well with solid slotting and intonation. All valves and slides work perfectly. Great Compression!

Renold Schilke intended the B7 to be the successor to his design for the medium bore Martin Committee and it certainly lives up to that expectation. The B7 achieves a perfect balance between giving you resistance to lean against and being free blowing with it’s large #1 taper bell (same as the B1) and a .450 medium bore. It is an amazingly versatile horn that is perfect for fluid and nimble bebop soloing; when you step on the gas it gives you that bright sizzle in the upper register for commercial/big band work. While some of the other models in the Schilke line might not be ideal for classical work, the B7 and the B1 with the large #1 taper bell produces a perfect round and clarion classical sound when desired. The intonation is second to none; response is instantaneous. It’s no secret that Renold Schilke bragged about having the tightest valve fit tolerances in the industry. These valves are lightening fast and smooth. Schilke trumpets simply have the finest build quality, consistency, and fit and finish in the entire brass world.

Large (A or # 1) bell Model numbers which include an ‘L’ (as in ‘B7L’) are for trumpets that are built with tuning bells. These are each ‘Step bore’ designs where the bore of the horn expands through the leadpipe, tuning slide and tuning slide bow, and valve slide bows, opening up the horn and making it freer blowing. Although unadvertised, the B6 has a standard weight pure copper bell (not the lightweight beryllium bell) that it shares with the B5. This B7Lb has a  Beryllium  Bell ( Copper) B7L Trumpets are among the more popular Schilke models and the very popular Yamaha YTR 6310Z is based upon this design, although the Schilke models are slightly larger in bore size than the Yamaha. They are easy playing and do not take a lot of air to fill up. More Pictures upon request. Here’s a video of the same model horn I recorded in November of 2012
