Description
This horn is near perfect! The 72*bell is the way to go for a commercial player. Nice warm sound down low with a sizzle on top when pushed.
There is no case or mouthpiece with this horn but I have many to choose from here at the HornTrader. The 3rd slide has an “AMADO”
style water key for quick and easy use.
Based on the official Vincent Bach Corporation records, the serial number places its manufacture date around 1972 or early 1973. This confirms it was built during the highly celebrated “Early Elkhart” era in Indiana, several years after Bach moved its tooling from Mt. Vernon in 1965. Instruments from this specific vintage (under serial number 121,7xx) are highly sought after by collectors and professional players because they feature traditional two-piece valve casings. The top portion of the casing was built with solid nickel silver, which many brass players believe gives the horn superior acoustic feedback, quicker core response, and premium build quality compared to later models.
- Instrument Model: Vincent Bach Stradivarius Bb Trumpet.
- The “72” Marking:* This indicates the specific bell type and weight:
- 72 Bell: The number 72 denotes a bell with a larger, more gradual flare and a wider throat than the standard #37 model. It is favored by commercial and orchestral players for its broad, warm, and dark tonal characteristics.
- The Star (*): The asterisk confirms it features a factory lightweight bell. This design offers a faster response, a more vibrant feel, and slightly less resistance.
- Serial Number (S/n) 90868: According to official Bach Trumpet Serial Number Lists, a serial number in the 90,000 range places its manufacture date around late 1974 or early 1975. This means it is a highly regarded vintage horn from the early Elkhart, Indiana production era.
