The “Brilliant Bell” Olds Studio Cornet
The Olds Studio went through some significant changes throughout it’s construction life at Olds. As originally conceived in the late ’40s, this was an instrument of yellow brass with a spun Nickel Silver bell flare, with the advertising material emphasizing a brilliant tone.
From the Olds catalog:
The studio cornet is designed in the true cornet tradition and utilizes the nickel silver “Brilliant Bell” for unusual carrying power. Long Valves provide a wide hand grip and the unusual construction of the leader pipe, as it enters the third valve, improves the appearance with out affecting its flexibility and continuous tone passage. Nickel Silver is used generously on the STUDIO cornet for greater war and rigid strength. the size of the bore allows full advantage of the breadth of tone so desirable to the cornetist.
